Group Blog 4/18/18 and Math Field Day
Today we all met up in H104 at 8:00 AM to discuss last minute details for math field day (this Saturday). The meeting today didn't have much collaboration it was just us running through all the details of the day (assigning roles, ironing out the schedule, just execution details). Since all we did was talk as a group we didn't need to develop new strategies, all we had to do was talk to each other it was simple. This is one of the last days before the event so we didn't need to re identify community needs since they have been decided upon from the first session. Our service project hopefully has a positive impact on the middle school students this weekend by encouraging them to love math. We didn't have any roadblocks because we were just talking. There wasn't even a need to divy up work since all we did was have a quick discussion this morning as a group.

Math Field Day was overall successful, despite Ms. Dear and Dr. Ishii being absent we (the students) for the most part were able to run the event. Everyone came to school on time, and the beginning of the day ran smoothly. Emin and Isabella, our registration people, were on time and quickly got to work signing in the teams as they came. All the registered teams came which was nice, the opening ceremonies went off without a hitch and the kids went down to their rooms and began the tests. This was where we encountered our first issue: we printed the wrong tests. This was our only real problem of the day, and was quickly remedied by sending someone to reprint the tests. Since we were ahead of schedule, we had time to spare and this mistake ended up not mattering. The tests themselves (once we had the correct ones) weren't that bad to grade and score. Once we had everything scored it was a simple matter to handout awards. Running the event was rather easy, and all the communication we needed was done over texting. Overall I at least felt that the day was an success in encouraging more students to take an interest in math, so mission accomplished.
